Carl Wharton's Yankee Dolphin, Glorianna (formerly known as the Ithaca Dolphin and Gabriella), Ithaca, New York

December 9, 2013. One of our readers and a Dolphin admirer, Avery Boyer, saw this mystery Dolphin at the Johnson Boatyard and Marina in Ithaca, New York. We are trying to find out more about this boat - possibly a newly found Dolphin. Pending more info we will refer to her as the Ithaca Dolphin. Webmaster Note June 22, 2015 - We've had some confusion with this boat's name, but I think we've finally got her right.

June 14, 2014. Avery has more info about our Ithaca Dolphin

Hi Ron,

I have an update for you on one of our Ithaca Dolphins. The Dolphin at Johnson Boatyard is, if I remember correctly, named Gabriella (Nope - Glorianna) She is owned by Mr. Carl Wharton who says that she has been owned by his family since new, starting with his parents. She is a Yankee boat, but I neglected to get her hull number.

Carl reports that she was one of four brought over to the Finger Lakes region as part of a marketing initiative by Yankee. One of the boats sank on Lake Seneca, Gabriella and Colossal (our boat for sale at Cornell) both still sail on Cayuga lake, and the fourth is unaccounted for. The saga continues!

All the best, Avery

Thanks to Avery, Glorianna is our 218th Found Dolphin. For Avery's efforts we are please to announce his formal appointment as a Dolphin Field Investigator (DFI - click here to find out more about this elite group). Avery has a Pearson Wanderer, #102, named Loon which he refers to as an overgrown Dolphin, and which he keeps at the Johnson boat yard. The Wanderers were also designed by Bill Shaw

Stay Tuned

June 22, 2015 Another DFI, Mike Friel, owner of Makarios (ex Colossal) sent in the following report (edited) and pictures and with this report we finally got Glorianna's name right.

Hello Ron,

Just came back from Ithaca, NY and not very far from where we acquired "Makarios", we spotted this Dolphin at Johnson's Boat Yard. I couldn't find the name in the alphabetical roster but I believe someone may have reported on this boat before.

Mike
