Monte Deignan's Nellie Gray, Yankee #88, Clipper Yacht Harbor, Sausalito, California (updated February 9, 2018)

February 26, 2014. Well, its happened again - another lucky Dolphin owner has dodged the bullet. While these are inspirational moments for many, they can be painful for others, so we have 'removed' most of the evidence from Monte's earlier email. Here is his email

Hello Ron,
Sorry, but the boat is no longer for sale. I told my wife I was going to sell the boat and it turns out she wants to keep it. I made the mistake of assuming she would want to see it sold. Sorry again for the confusion. So with that I am getting her ready for the summer, with a bottom job and new deck paint. More details when time allows. Thanks for your work with the Dolphin site
Regards,
Monte

On February 24, 2014, Monte Deignan checked in with Yankee #88, a newly found Dolphin, our 216th. Jerry LaCroix (Yankee #133) told us about this boat back on June 28, 2013 but we had no specifics at the time.

Nellie Gray

Hello Ron,

The boat name is Nellie Gray and the hull number appears to be #88. I have owned her since 1999 and she was previously owned by Floyd Beaver of Mill Valley, CA. The boat is currently berthed at Clipper Yacht harbor in Sausalito, CA. The hull is currently a dark blue, with white deck and cabin.

The boat does not have a motor currently, no trailer, and has older sails and all lines, etc. The registration is current. The boat has not been used for 2-3 years and needs a good cleaning and bottom job.

The above is an older photo of the boat is included from when it had the bottom repainted.

Best Regards,

Monte

April 1, 2015 Your Webmaster dusted off his DFI badge and on a field trip to San Francisco, to re-certify DFI/daughter Nicole, checked out Nellie Gray. Here she is:

September 12, 2017. Monte sent in a short update

Hello Ron,

Nellie Gray is still the same. Getting ready to replace the hatch cover and re-caulk.

Cheers,

Monte Deignan

February 9, 2018 - In response to a cold webmaster's plea for a Nellie Gray update we got the following from Monte

Hello Ron,

Things are way too warm out on this coast, for this time of year. Nellie is doing well. I will send some current photos this next week. My goal is to rebuild the main hatch this Spring. The teak and caulk need to be redone. If other owners have experience on this or suggestions, I would like to hear them. The temporary hatch is in place to protect from the elements.

More details soon.

Best Regards,

Monte

Webmaster Note: We've some stuff on hatch repair in the Technical Section/Repairs. Here's the links

http://dolphin24.org/hatches_and_related.html and http://dolphin24.org/unda_marisIII_main_hatch.html

If anyone can add to this please let me know.
