Leah Volpe's Bittersweet, Lunn # L212, Guilford, Connecticut (updated March 11, 2012)

May 28, 2011. Proudly wearing his DFI (Dolphin Field Investigator) badge, your webmaster spoke with Leah Volpe yesterday coincidently renewing an acquaintance dating back some 35-40 years. Bittersweet is now Clifford Dasco's Maya Elena, her new owner after 25 years as Abbie Burgess in the care of Art Krause of Spruce Head, Maine. She's not moving far as Art and Cliff are neighbors on Lobster Cove in Spruce Head, and she will swing on a mooring in front of both their houses.

Leah told me she had Bittersweet for about 5-6 years, buying her from the Bruce and Johnson's Marina brokerage in the late 1970's. Her name then was Esprit. Her previous owners had raced her extensively, and Leah said she had won in Off Soundings regattas. She painted the boat green, and when she renamed her, had signboads made.

We are hoping for some pictures from Leah, and will keep trying to track down Esprit.

******************************

March 11, 2012. As we currently are currently working on a project involving Dolphins with black masts (click here to go there) a follow up call to Leah was in order. Besides providing a couple leads about how we might get more info about Esprit, she added the following about Bittersweet. She was kept at the Guilford Yacht Club, that the hull was white when she bought her, and she painted the bottom black.

Stay Tuned
