It appears that most, though not all, have upgraded from the OEM bronze winches to newer models. My boat has bronze winches that appear to be in good working order. Other than weight reduction and perhaps self-tailing, I'd like to hear why folks decided to change out the winches. Thanks to all.

Another 'negative', for some, of these old winches was the side loading winch handle vs the more convenient top loading types.
