After lots of delays, I'm finally starting work on Heaven, seen in this post:
http://www.dolphin24.org/heaven.html
This is the first time I've tackled a project like this, so I'm here looking for advice from the pros!
The thing I'm most concerned about is replacing the engine. I can't navigate my canal by sail so it's a necessity for me, but I
don't have the slightest idea how to start. Does anyone have any advice?

I am working on replacing the Palmer in my Lunn as well, I have a used Yanmar 2GM10 I plan to fit. The basics will be
- remove engine
- remove all associated systems - tank, fill line, wiring harness, etc
- clean engine area out / paint
- evaluate what changes will be needed for engine bed
- modify engine beds if needed
- soft install engine to check fit for systems (exhaust, wiring etc)
- finalize and install systems (shift lever linkage, throttle, instruments
- set engine and align couplings hook up systems
- refit all other parts removed in process
- go sailing
Of course, the challenge is in the details! It's been done, there are other Dolphins with 1GM10 and 2GM10 engines which says
this swap is feasible if not easy. I expect I'll update Ron with emails as I get into it, but it may take a long time. The Yanmar
is used, and before buying I witnessed it run. I looked at the smaller 1GM10 as well, and briefly considered a Beta but a new
engine was going to be close to 10,000. Used running Yanmars are going for $2000 to $3000 on the west coast on craigslist.
