Ron,
I am pleased to let you know that I am the proud new owner of Pacific Dolphin 271, formerly Phinn. I know there had been some mystery about her this winter. I was lucky to talk to Tim McNally before all the interest.
I purchased her this Spring from Tim McNally and have recently re-launched her on Skaneateles Lake in the Finger Lakes of Central New York. Her new name is Tuuli (Finnish for Wind). Tim was a great steward and I hope to be the same. We had to do very little work other than clean up and coat the teak; however we did add a stern rail and ladder I purchased from a marina in CT that had earlier cut a Dolphin up.
One change I want to make is replacing the gas outboard with an electric motor. I am considering a 100 to 160 pound force trolling motor. Any advice would be appreciated. I am done with gas, having been the owner of an Atomic 4 for the past 15 years. Anyone wanting to buy it (runs great and complete) let me know, it can be had cheap.
Had Tuuli out for our first sail today and I was very happy, she sails great and I can't wait to get the boat out in a blow. This my second Sparkman and Stephens design, I also own and sail Lighting #378 Acme, built in Skaneateles in 1939. Having met Olin 1988 at the 60th anniversary Lightning Regatta I have always been impressed with his work and its historical significance.
Attached are some photos from our inaugural weekend. Perhaps I'll get some photos of the Tuuli and Acme sailing together this summer! If I do, I'll send them along.
