Chris Hefner's Haiku, Yankee #103, Elephant Butte Lake (Albuquerque area), New Mexico

July 17, 2013. Chris Hefner got in touch 3 years ago but somehow we failed to get his Haiku, Yankee #103 onto our Roster. She becomes officially our 213th found Dolphin. Chris has been thinking of taking her to the Caribbean which I think she would like! Below is Chris' most recent email. We'll stand by for pictures and more about her.

Hello Ron,
My Dolphin is hull #103 built by Yankee Yachts. I found it laying on its side in the middle of a lot, sand building up on the side. It had been on a trailer when the rig got out of control and wrecked. The boat slid down the highway but received mostly pavement rash. The teak toe rail had to be replaced and the gel coat in spots. There was enough work that it took a year of after work and evenings to complete. In the end sailing seemed more important than cosmetics.

The next five years were spent sailing on Elephant Butte Lake. Water levels dropped and the boat has been in a warehouse for the last several years. It may be time to make it as pretty as it deserves. I named it Haiku because it is small and beautiful.

Chris

ps I suppose Socorro would be the boat's home “port” though the Rio Grande is dry at this time.
